FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Skaneateles, NY) – The Lucas Gallery announces the opening of the Eastlake Romantique Show on February 3. The gallery is located at 33 Jordan Street, Skaneateles, NY and is created to serve as a hub among artists, interior designers and architects, and the public.

Featured artists for Eastlake Romantique are:

•Margaret Olney-McBride, Skaneateles, New York, Oil on Canvas
•Len Fishman – Skaneateles, New York, Stone Sculpture

Kevin and Molly Lucas looked for a collection that inspired romance through imagery and touch, but they also wanted to make the statement with examples of some of the finest talent to be found in Skaneateles proper. They feel they’ve found it with the works of Margaret and Len.

Kevin commented on the collection, “The paintings of magical locations and beautiful scenery, which we have lined up from Margaret’s studio, put the viewer in settings that are elegant, fresh and breathtaking. Len’s graceful abstract sculptures beg you to touch them and feel the sweeping lines and luxuriant texture of the stone. His skilled execution and innate talent combine to create very elegant pieces that are exceedingly sensual and use positive and negative space to break tension. We’re convinced that what we’ve put together illustrates romantic expression in art very well.”

In the first month of opening the Lucas Gallery to the public, the gallery owners have relied heavily on their background in the Fingerlakes to steer a course for them. About the shows the gallery has planned, Lucas says, “It seems that the art that resonates in this community doesn’t necessarily need to be related to a local topic or even be produced in this community -- though it is our intent to give preference to the local art community. For example, the references to France in Margaret’s paintings resonate locally because there is an unconscious connection with the French countryside here in the Fingerlakes. It comes from the climate, the hillside settings, our love of the water, the investment and stock grown in the wine industry, simple but elegant living, and the appreciation of fine art and sublime expression. That’s why we are seeing French restaurants, spas, and even interior styling recently gaining such a following locally. We work to collect art for shows in the gallery that bring to light these subtle but genuine affinities for more worldly connections.”

The first artists that opened in the gallery in December will continue to be displayed through March 15 and include Mick Mather of Syracuse, Rustin Devendorf of Syracuse, Al D'Agostino of Liverpool, Melissa Tiffany of Baldwinsville, Robert Mescavage of Marcellus, Chris Galin of Rome, Arnold Galin of Rome, and Kevin Lucas of Skaneateles.

The Lucas Gallery already has shows lined up through next summer that all have a focus around topics that illustrate connections between contemporary Fingerlakes life and other cultures in the world.
